How to Prevent Heart Disease

The incidence of heart disease continues to rise, with a projected 400,000 Americans expected to be killed by the disease this year. Preventing heart disease involves looking at your risk factors and making changes to your lifestyle.

You can reduce their risk of this disease considerably by making three simple lifestyle changes.

First, eat healthier meals. To prevent heart disease, eat heart-healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables, good-for-you fats like olive oil, and foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids like salmon. Eat less high-cholesterol food. Avoid canned goods as often as possible, as well as packaged goods, salt (use a nice mixture of spices instead) and most take-out and fast food.

Second, quit smoking. Avoiding tobacco can help to prevent heart attacks by keeping your body free of toxins like nicotine. Many of us know people who smoke and point to older people who have smoked without problems.
