Omega-3 fatty acids, like those found in fish oil have so many benefits, I can’t help but not be grateful for it. Fish in many ways represents brain food, by weight the brain represents 60% fat by weight. Of this, 25-30% is the omega-3 fat DHA. Every decision we make as human beings is an orchestrated arrangement of electric signals firing across thousands of cells. Fatty acids play a key role in this process.
Some doctors swear that Omega 3′s are one of the most important supplement regardless of diet. Supplements seem to be the most reliable way to get the required amount. Blood tests can see the difference between people who consume low amounts of Omega 3′s and those who consume enough. Omega 3 is known as a “heart” supplement.
There seems to be little downside in taking a multivitamin. There are hundreds on the markets and millions of people have taken them without side effects. The multivitamin is the best overall protection from not getting the right nutrition. We prefer to eat right but when we don’t – consider the lowly multivitamin.
Vitamin D has been in the news lately as being deficient in many people. Partly this is because we spend all our time inside. Partly this is because it is almost impossible to get through normal diet. Most people need to add a supplement if they want to get their required vitamin D for the day.
According to the Mayo Clinic: Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is produced by the human body and is necessary for the basic functioning of cells. CoQ10 levels are reported to decrease with age and to be low in patients with some chronic diseases such as heart conditions, muscular dystrophies, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS. Some prescription drugs may also lower CoQ10 level.
