Immune System

The reason why we get sick is the failure of our immune system to keep a pathogenic invasion of our body suppressed. Old age, cigarette smoking, mental stress, poor nutrition and a lack of adequate sleep have all been associated with a decrease in immune system functioning. When the immune system is weakened, a virus has more chance of taking hold.

Our genes play a role in the strength of our immune systems. Depending on how the genes of our parents cross the natural prowess of each person’s immune system will vary.

Our diets are very crucial in the well-being of our immune systems. Lacking vitamins will result in a weakened immune system, as will the in-take of hard to process foods. Eating a natural, healthy, and varied diet will greatly increase the strength of one’s immune system. Any toxin you consume, be it in drug or food, diverts your immune systems attention.

Aside from consumption habits, the other main factor is lifestyle. Sleep deprivation can weaken the immune system, as well as stress.

In many studies, people that exercise at moderate intensities have been shown to report fewer cold cases than people who do not exercise.Moderate exercise, such as brisk walking or cycling, has been shown to produce positive changes in the immune system. Not all exercise is good, however. High intensity exercise, or heavy exertion, will actually decrease immune functioning.

Last but not least, it should be put in mind that the frequency with which we are overtaken by sickness is dependent on the decisions we make in our daily lives.
